Bad news for Black Sabbath fans
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, particularly where it concerns music -- and especially Black Sabbath. I don't know about you guys, but I got really excited when I first learned that Sabbath would be back out on the road for several summer gigs. Now, it seems, they'll be without a key member. So much for the big Black Sabbath reunion.
And the situation seems utterly ridiculous. Apparently, Ward is out because he can't reach a contract agreement. Pathetic, really. If you have tickets to see them this weekend in England (the first show, in Birmingham, is on Saturday night), I feel for you. I'm sure the gig will be great, but without Bill Ward, it just won't be the same.So why is Bill Ward refusing to go on the road with Black Sabbath? As I mentioned, it's all about the contract. Ward offers a lengthy message on his official website as an explanation (worth the reading time, trust me). None of this makes any sense. Why on EARTH would BS not get this all straightened out before they book shows?
Ward flat-out says that he really does want to play with Black Sabbath. He apologizes to fans, because he surely knows how disappointed we all are (and yeah, it stings). But again, it's all about what Ward calls a "totally unsatisfactory contract." The guy has to protect his own interests first, I suppose. Did I mention this stings? Oh, sorry, yeah, I did. But it does.
Here's what's really strange: Bill Ward claims that he found out about this Saturday's Birmingham Black Sabbath show by reading the Internet. Really? That definitely sheds light on the vast chasm that's developed between Ward and the rest of the band, doesn't it?
Hopefully Black Sabbath and Bill Ward can reach some sort of suitable agreement that will make everyone happy: Ward, Sabbath and of course, the fans. I just really wish they could come to terms before the new BS shows start!
